La Roche-en-Ardenne,
set on a bow of the River Ourthe, has always been of strategic
importance as is witnessed by the
Feudal Castle
which dominates the valley.
More recently the Ardennes offensive, popularly known as
the Battle of the Bulge,
was fought in the surrounding jig-saw of woods and valleys which is the Ardenne.
It is this geography which makes the Ardennes so incredibly scenic and popular with hikers.
La Roche is also known for its
Eartheware production, ham and
Chouffe beer.
